Ka·kin symbolizes more than a name

it embodies a fundamental spirit deeply ingrained in the Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi Nation Teachings.

Known for its lifelong loyalty and dedication to the pack’s well being, Ka·kin safeguards the vulnerable, nurtures the young, and respects the wisdom of the elderly.

Former Nasukin (Chief) Mary Mahseelah highlighted Ka·kin’s spiritual significance, respected by medicine, men and warriors.

The logo, depicting Ka·kin (Wolf) amid forests and mountains, signifies its symbiotic bond with the Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi ‘it ancestral lands.

It illustrates Ka·kin (Wolf) as a guardian and steward of the land, drawing vitality from nature. This imagery resonates with the community, symbolizing their respect of the land and commitment to its preservation.

The story behind the Wolf

The story behind our organization’s name and logo, Ka·kin meaning “wolf” in Ktunaxa, is a story of deep connection to tradition, culture, and land.

The Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi Chief and Council (2016) sought a name resonating with community essence, leading to Ka·kin embodying strength, loyalty, and guardianship.

Former Nasukin (Chief) Mary Mahseelah emphasized Ka·kin’s significance as a symbol of protection and guidance, highly esteemed by the akanunik (could use Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi ‘it Nation Members/people) people.
